Golden Louie Records (GLR) is a small independent record company. Founded in 2006, it gave local artists the opportunity to release their material to a wider audience. Albums and mixes were released online and in CD format, and videos were produced to promote the music. Many individuals have been involved over the years.
GLR’s origins actually date back to 1994 when Louie Radio was created. In 2003, Pie-O-Near Records was established to release music for DJ Pioneer, and it quickly transformed into what we know as Golden Louie Records today. By 2014, the record company had released five full-length hip-hop albums, an experimental EP, and a mixtape showcasing the talents of several musicians.
While early recordings relied on the most basic of equipment, additional instruments and technology were incorporated into the studio over time. Vocal recordings, instrumentation, and production were mainly handled in-house. Studio equipment has included turntables, microphones, an electric guitar, an amplifier, a trumpet, and Casio and Korg keyboards. Nikon and Samsung digital cameras were used to record the music videos, and they were subsequently edited with PC software. In recent years, a cardioid condenser microphone and an Akai MIDI controller were purchased for studio use to improve production capabilities and sound quality.
